The International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie is the only
vehicular crossing between Ontario and Michigan within a
300-mile distance. The Bridge connects two cities, Sault
Ste. Marie, Ontario with Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The
International Bridge also plays a vital role in the
well-being of both Soo communities. It serves as an
essential transportation link to the steel, paper and
forest industries, to tourism-reliant business, and to
the general public for work, recreation, and shopping
purposes. More than 1.9 million vehicles cross the
bridge every year. Over $1 million is spent annually
for bridge maintenance, such as sandblasting and
painting, to keep the 45 year old bridge safe
and structurally sound. The Sault Ste Marie
International crossing is unique in that it is jointly
operated by the government of Canada and the State of
Michigan. Because the bridge operation is
self-sustaining through toll revenue, it has to be run
like a business. Attend this career showcase for a
closer look at this unique operation!
Hosted by: Phil Becker, International Bridge Manager
The office is adjacent to the toll booths. From the
intersection of Portage Ave and Easterday Ave (at the
Admiral gas station) head north on Portage and take the
first drive on the right
past the Holiday gas
station (If you cross under the bridge
you have gone too far). There is parking around and
adjacent to the office building. Enter at the door to
the south.
