Surveyors can choose from many specialties and get involved at many stages of a project. They are the first on the job. Sometimes they get involved while the project is being completed. When the job is done, they make sure that all the measurements are in line with original plans.  Job opportunities are plentiful, exciting, and varied. Technology advancements in recent years will keep the demand for surveyors high.

Northwoods Land Surveying also employs engineers.  If you like the outdoors and like to solve problems, learn more about this interesting career.

Governor Granholm is stressing the importance of renewable energy in Michigan’s future, estimating that substantial careers in that field are on the horizon.  She says that Michigan has an opportunity to create new “green collar” jobs, reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and cut its energy expenses.  Just what is “renewable energy”?  Does the Eastern UP have the capacity to produce renewable energy?  How would a person get involved in this career field?  Some of these questions will be discussed by Dr. Michael Doyle, a widely traveled “student of the earth” who serves as a consultant to the U.S. government and as the Director of Research at Bay Mills Community College.  In 2006 Dr. Doyle received an International Honor Award from the U.S. government for his recent work in Africa.  He is an expert on renewable energy and agriculture. Currently he has projects evaluating local wind resources and various agricultural solutions to our energy needs.  Learn more at this thought-provoking showcase.
